International Test Requirements TOEFL Requirements International students whose first language is not English must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). In order to be competitive for the admission to BYU-Hawaii students need to score a minimum of 500 on the written TOEFL or 173 on the computerized TOEFL. Before registering for classes, most international students are required to take a language proficiency test on campus. Most international students, including those with scores up to 600 on the TOEFL, may be required to take from 4 to 12 months at BYU-Hawaii's EIL program. Results of the test are returned within 3 weeks of the test date. If you are a full-time missionary, you will need to arrange with your mission president for permission to take the TOEFL. In some areas, the Michigan Test is available through the BYUH facilitators. Let him know the location and date in case you have to travel outside of your district to take the test. The test normally requires about 2 hours to complete.
Michigan Test Requirements In select countries, the CES facilitator has been designated as an official MICHIGAN Test administrator for BYU-Hawaii. The cost of the test is $5.00. Students may take the Michigan two times per year. A minimum score of 75 or higher is required for entry into BYU-Hawaii.
IELTS Requirements BYU-H also recognizes the IELTS score.The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP Education Australia: IELTS Australia.
