Laurie was raised in Laie, attending and graduating from Kahuku High School. She graduated from BYU - Hawai'i in 1987, with a degree in accounting. Prior to working at the Student Health Center, she managed the Student Health Insurance plan for BYU - Hawai’i. She assists Dr. Nielson managing the Health Center and coordinating scheduling, business and logistics.

Laurie is an excellent crafter, and her outstanding work can be found all over Laie. She enjoys working, being a mom and serving others. Laurie is married to Guy and is the mother of six children, Justin, Amber, Chantel, Kelsey, Haley and Jordan.
