On-Campus Housing Move-In Guide - Sponsored Students

The beginning of school is just around the corner. You’re nearly ready to pack your bags, but you may still have a few questions. We hope the following information will help make your move easier.

When can I move in?

Check-in is April 20, 2008 from 8 pm to 12 midnight. If you need to arrive earlier in the day on the 30th, please contact the Housing Office at housing@byuh.edu to make arrangements.

*For parents bringing their students, regretfully we are not able to provide housing. Please contact the Laie Inn at (808) 293-9282 to make your housing arrangements.

Where do I check in?

Just go right to your residence hall. Your hale coordinator or resident advisor will give you your key and help you check in.

Can I check in early?

Yes, if space is available. You must request an early check-in, in writing, from the University Housing Office. The early check-in fee is $26.82 per night. Students checking in early will be assigned to stay in a lounge until their room becomes available.

What if I check in late?

Room assignments may be canceled for any residents arriving after April 30, 2008. If you must arrive after this deadline please notify the University Housing Office.

What should I bring?

You'll need your own towels, wash clothes, alarm clock, sewing kit, study supplies, umbrella, camera, backpack, flashlight, electric fan, slippers, robe, hangers, sunscreen, etc. Emergency items such as a first aid kit, extra batteries/bulbs for flashlight, water bottles, any medications that you are currently taking, etc. Any bed linens you do not bring, you will be required to purchase from the Hale Office. You must bring a mattress cover, one twin size flat sheet,one twin size fitted sheet, one pillow, two pillow cases, and a light blanket or bead spread.

Can I bring entertainment equipment?

You're welcome to bring your personal equipment, but please be considerate of others. Residents are discouraged from bringing powerful or bulky audio/visual equipment such as large sterios, radios, televisions, speakers, etc. If you prefer loud music then you should bring headphones. The university is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What about my telephone and answering machine?

The Hales are equipped with IP phones that my be used for local calls. Residents must purchase phone cards to make long distance calls.

Is there a place for my bike?

The residence halls have limited outside bicylce storage. You may want to consider bringing an inexpensive bike.

What shoulnd't I bring?

University policy prohibits fireworks or other explosive flammable materials in the residence halls. Weapons, including firearms, BB guns, paint-ball guns, wrist rockets, hunting knives, etc. are also not permitted in the residence halls.

Can I decorate my room?

Of course! However, only appropriate decorations are encouraged (posters, pictures, etc. ) Please use non-adhesive tacky for putting things on the walls. Please do not use tape or other types of adhesive and make sure that your decorations can be easily removed (no paint or decals.) Windows should be free from decorations (posters, flags, etc. )

How can I get from the airport to campus?

The Physical Plant provides a shuttle service to and from the airport. Contact Mele a the Physical Plant office (808) 675-3400 or visit their website at http://tma.byuh.edu

When will I get my mailing address?

You will receive an actual mailing address when you arrive at school.

What about my meal plan?

Meals begin with dinner on the check-in day. Just go to 'The Club' and bring any type of ID (passport, etc.) and they will serve you dinner. As the meal program utilizes a BYUH ID card, please obtain one from the BYUHSA office soon after arriving on campus.

What if I want to change my room?

There is no room change period for spring term.

Additional information regarding on campus housing is included in the Housing Contract, the Spring 2008 calendar and the Residence Halls Handbook.
