Temple View Apartments Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply for TVA? If you are a new or returning student to BYUH, the application you filled out for admission to the university has a place where you should have indicated married student housing. This will be your application for TVA. Once you are accepted to the university, you will need to pay a $50 non-refundable processing fee to the Cashier's office. Be sure you give your name, BYU-H ID#, that it's for TVA and the semester or term for which you are applying when you pay. Since the $50 non-refundable processing fee can not be paid on-line, you will need to call the Cashiers Office at (808) 675-3724. If you are a continuing student, you will need to come into the housing office to fill out an application before proceeding to the Cashiers Office to pay the $50 non-refundable processing fee. Additional questions about TVA can be answered by viewing the TVA Handbook. The handbook is on-line under married student housing. How am I placed on the TVA waitlist? First priority for TVA is given to current students. After completing the TVA application and paying the $50 non-refundable processing fee at the Cashiers, a current student is placed on the waitlist with the date their $50 fee was received as their eligibility date. New or returning students who have been accepted to the university and paid their $50 non-refundable processing fee are placed on the first priority waitlist with the first day of class for the semester or term for which they are accepted as their primary eligiblity date and the date their $50 non-refundable processing fee is received as their secondary eligiblity date. Where can I find off-campus married student housing information? Off-campus married student housing is limited and can be expensive. Information on what is currently available can be found by clicking on the off-campus link of this website and looking under "non-contract" housing. Are there apartment complexes in Laie? There are no apartment complexes in Laie. Most of the off-campus housing consists of students renting homes in the community, or apartments that are connected to the landlord's property. Some of the off-campus facilities are rooms that landlords rent to married students. The students may share a bathroom, kitchen, and living facilities with the family. How much does married off-campus housing cost? Off-campus housing costs are left entirely up to the landlord. The housing office doesn't regulate the prices charged for off-campus housing. Due to the high cost of living in Hawaii, off-campus married student housing is normally more expensive. REMEMBER: It is the student's responsibility to inquire with the landlords that they contact concerning the details of the unit--whether cooking is available, what the living arrangements are, how the security deposit and refund are handled, etc. Once I get accepted and have paid the $50 non-refundable processing fee, how long does it normally take for someone to get into TVA? You may need to find off-campus housing for at least one to two semester. Who can live in TVA? TVA is provided for married couples or single parents with dependent children under the age of 18. Do visiting students qualify for TVA? Visiting students do not qualify for TVA. Please check the off-campus website under "non-contract off-campus housing" for available units. Do I have to attend both spring and summer terms in order to remain in TVA? No. At least one spouse must be full-time EITHER spring or term term in order to remain in TVA. Full-time for the terms is 4 credits for U.S. and 6 credits for international students. How long can guests visit in TVA? There is a two-week limit on overnight guests. All guests must be registered with the TVA Central Office. Failure to abide by this policy can result in a monetary fine and/or being asked to leave TVA.
